Our Support Groups

Someone you have given love to and received love from has died. You are in mourning. You are bereft. To be "bereaved" literally means to be torn apart and to have special needs. Perhaps your most important need right now is to be compassionate with yourself. One way to care for yourself is to learn more about grief and mourning. We invite you to participate in the Dawson Funeral Home support groups and grief sessions led by our grief facilitator.

The Grief 101 is intentionally designed for those who have experienced the death of an immediate family member; however, there are others who occasionally join. The program is held monthly at the Dawson Family Center. We offer these sessions through out the year. Call or check our Facebook page for scheduling updates and announcements.

Topics of discussion include: grief is bad for your health, dealing with anger, memories and much, much more. We use printed material, videos and audio to learn about the grieving process.

The Dawson Cares Series is a quarterly community event that is an open invitation program. Events are planned for content most relevant to issues effecting our senior population or those who have been touched by loss. The events are always free and all are welcome to attend. Watch for event announcements in the newspaper or on our website or ask Judy to give you a call.

Our annual holiday service has been a Dawson tradition for over two decades.  The Service to Remember Our Loved Ones is always held on the first Sunday in December and is centered around a living Christmas tree decorated with bulbs and ornaments in memory of those we have lost.  All names are read during the service and those that participate are invited to take their loved one's ornament home with them as a permanent memorial.  There is no charge for this service or the ornaments and all are welcome.
