MICHAEL E. ORR, 64

EAST LIVERPOOL – Michael E. Orr, 64, passed away at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at his residence on Princeton Avenue following a five-year illness. His loving wife of nearly 37 years, Darlene, was at his side.

He was born on February 24, 1949 in East Liverpool, a son of the late Evan Orr and Naomi Smith Nortrup. Michael was also the maternal grandson of Gertrude “Gertie” Smith and Chester Smith, former East Liverpool City police captain who was credited with mortally wounding famed gangster Pretty Boy Floyd in 1934.

A 1967 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Michael attended Westminster College. On September 25, 1976, he married the former Darlene Moore, and remained in East Liverpool the rest of his life. He was retired from BASF Chemical Company, where he worked in waste water management. A loyal Pittsburgh sports fan, he also loved to read.

Michael was extremely proud of his family, and was a devoted father to his two daughters, who survive: Gabrielle Slaugenhaupt and her husband, Scott, of Dormont, PA, and Courtney Redmond and her husband, Denny, of Hermitage, PA. A sister also survives, Melanie L. Barker and her husband, Richard, of East Liverpool.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday, where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Dirk Hall of Living Well Church in Wellsville officiating. Burial will take place at Spring Hill Cemetery after which family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center.
