Obituary for Anthony J. Yanni

EAST LIVERPOOL – Anthony J. Yanni of South Hollywood Drive in East Liverpool died at the age of 85 at 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 at the East Liverpool City Hospital.

A son of the late Louis and Laura Aloi Yanni, he was born in East Liverpool on April 15, 1928 and remained here for the rest of his life.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Yanni served his country with the U.S. Navy and was a 1946 graduate of East Liverpool High School. He had been a maintenance foreman in the cold strip at the former Crucible Steel Corporation, retiring after 23 years. Following his retirement, he went to work as a machinist at the Stevenson Manufacturing Company in Wellsville.

Mr. Yanni had been a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in East End, and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #509, Sons of Italy, and was an accomplished cabinet maker.

Preceding him in death in 2007 was his wife, the former Mary Ann Russo, whom he married on June 11, 1955 and an infant daughter, Christine Marie Yanni.

Surviving him are his children: daughter Laura Brown, and her husband, Thomas, of East Liverpool; and sons Michael Yanni and his wife, Barb, of East Liverpool; Patrick Yanni and his wife, LuAnne, of Orlando, FL; Louis Yanni of Salem; Anthony Yanni and his wife Corinn’e of Lakewood, CO; and Jeffrey Yanni of East Liverpool.

Also surviving are two brothers, John Yanni and his wife, Kay, of East Liverpool, and Steve Yanni of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, along with eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Mr. Yanni was also preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Bosco and Delores Yanni, as well as a granddaughter, Danielle Nicole Yanni.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church, on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m., with Father Peter Haladej as the celebrant.

Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors. Family and friends will then gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
