Catherine M. “Cathy” Vest, 63, passed away at her home on Terrace Park Drive in East Liverpool at 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2013, following a sudden illness.
She was born in Baltimore, MD, on December 16, 1949, a daughter of the late Martin and Virginia Seigle Wunder.
Cathy was a 1968 graduate of Lansdowne High School, and had also attended cosmetology school. A U.S. Army veteran, she served during the Vietnam era at Fort Devens, MA, from 1971 to 1973, mostly as a finance clerk. She later had worked in housekeeping in various military bases where her husband was stationed, including West Germany. Upon his retirement from the service, the family returned to the East Liverpool area, where they remained.
A Catholic by faith, she loved watching NASCAR – especially Jeff Gordon.
Surviving her at home is her husband, Richard L. "Rick" Vest, whom she married June 9, 1973.
Cathy also leaves behind her daughters, Michele Webb and her husband, Matt, of Wellsville, and Carole Vest, also of Wellsville. There are five beloved grandchildren: Harley, Corey, Kerrigan, Jacob and Emily, as well as a sister, Patricia Lester of Baltimore, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on April 27, 2003 by a granddaughter, Katie Lynn Vest.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and again from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
Father Peter Haladej of Holy Trinity Parish will conduct services at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.
