Longtime city resident Ruth Armstrong Badger left her earthly home and joined her Savior and her beloved husband, Dean, at 1:09 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014, following a lingering illness. Ruth, who resided on Dixonview Drive, was 86.

She was born on November 22, 1927 in Blairsville, PA, a daughter of the late Rev. Howard W. Armstrong and Ethel Murray Armstrong.

In 1938, the family made its way to the East Liverpool area, where Ruth attended East Liverpool High School and was graduated in 1945. For 23 years, she worked at the former Montgomery Ward as a credit and office manager, then later was associated with both First Federal and Perpetual Savings Banks.

A longtime member of the First Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool, Ruth had been a Sunday School teacher, a Church Board member and had also been the church treasurer at one time. She attended the Oakland Free Methodist Church in recent years.

Ruth was happiest, though, when surrounded by her loving extended family, of whom she was deeply proud.

Her husband, Dean C. Badger, preceded her in death on October 14, 2011. Dean and Ruth were married on March 3, 1958.

Surviving is her step-daughter, Diana Badger, of East Liverpool, whom Ruth considered her very own.

Her sister and best friend, Naomi Drum, of East Liverpool, also survives as well as her sister-in-law, Sue Armstrong, of Hammondsport, NY.

There are many special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.

Three brothers, Rev. Howard Armstrong, Kent Armstrong and Richard Armstrong, as well as a sister, Phyllis Ralph, also preceded Ruth in death.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral home on Tuesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 Wednesday, with Ruth’s nephew Pastor Jeff Smith of Grace City Church officiating, assisted by her pastor, Carol Forsythe of Oakland Free Methodist Church.

Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the Grace City Church.
