Obituary for Esta J. Gatrell

LISBON – Former Purinton Ave. resident Esta J. Gatrell, passed away at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014 at The Vista Center in Lisbon following a lengthy illness.

A daughter of the late Joseph and Jean Patterson Gatrell, Esta was born in East Liverpool on December 31, 1928. She was a 1947 graduate of East Liverpool High School and a 1954 graduate of the Ohio Valley Business College.

She was associated with the Tobin Law Offices as a legal secretary from 1953 to 1991. Esta worked at the East Liverpool Dairy Queen from 1973 to 1999, the Senior Aides Program from 1994 to 2006, as well as working at The Hot Dog Shoppe and finally retiring at the age of 81.

Esta had attended the First Church of Christ, Disciples and enjoyed reading, gardening, puzzles and walks outdoors. With a Chihuahua always by her side, Esta’s beloved Saucee passed away in November of 2012.

She is survived by her two sisters, Virginia Mackey of Cuyahoga Falls, and Janice Higgins of Holly Springs, North Carolina. There are eight nieces and nephews, Pam Manges, Teri Mackey, Richard Price, and his wife Kay, Mike Price, and his wife Patsy, Jeanne Perell, and her husband Butch, Debbie Dunn, and her husband Rich, Jayne Pruden, and her husband Ed, and Tim Higgins and his wife Andrea. She is also survived by 11 great-nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her sisters, Nedra Croxall, Margaret Price and June Costello, as well as her nephews, Jimmy Costello and Scotty Higgins.

Friends may visit the family at the Dawson Funeral Home, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Kay Price officiating. Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park with Rev. Richard Price providing the committal.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Vista Center and Senior Independence Valley Hospice for their compassionate care.
