Obituary for Louise S. Lawton (Spear)
Louise S. Lawton, 85, formerly of Wellsville, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Alliance Community Hospital, with three generations of her family at her side.
Born in Glendale, WV on December 11, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Rex Avery and Essie Virginia Clark Spear. Louise was a graduate of Moundsville High School and went on to earn two Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Music, at West Liberty University in 1947. While in college, she met her future husband, George T. Lawton, whom she married on July 11, 1947.
In 1954, she and George moved to the Wellsville area, where they both began their longtime teaching careers. Louise taught elementary students in Wellsville schools for over 30 years, where she instilled a love of music in countless students, which she considered her very own “kidsâ€, and was remembered as the organizer of many annual Christmas plays and Spring festivals over the years.
Louise attended Riverside Presbyterian Church, as well as the First United Methodist Church in Wellsville, where she served as the pianist for many years. She was also widely known as an accompanist for various events in the area and throughout the state. Louise also was a former member of Business Professional Women in East Liverpool.
Her husband, George, preceded her in death on February 24, 2010. Soon afterward, she moved to Salem to live with her daughter.
There is one daughter, Candy Reichle, and her husband Glenn, of Salem, along with three grandchildren, Darby Densmore, and his wife, Denise, of Camptown, PA; Erin Densmore Li, and her husband Danny, of West Chester, PA; and Shannon Densmore Medycki and her husband Rob, of Souderton, PA. In addition, there are nine great-grandchildren: Devon, Taylor, Haili, Colin, Zach, Alaina, Corey, Mason and Julia, along with a great-great-granddaughter, Laila.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Diez.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the First Christian Church of Wellsville, where other arrangements are pending at this time. Burial will take place in Moundsville, WV at a later date.
