Obituary for Thelma J. Wells (Kearns)

Thelma J. Wells passed away at the age of 72 at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at her home on Sprucevale Road in Rogers.

A daughter of the late Carl and Sarah Ann Johnson Kearns, Thelma was born in Newell, WV on December 27, 1941. A graduate of East Liverpool High School, she continued her education at Ohio Valley Business College. She spent 40 years in California, returning to this area in 2006.

Thelma had been a bookkeeper for Don Smith at one time, and was a devoted homemaker for her family.

Preceding her in death on May 25, 2005 was her husband, Albert Wells.

Three sons survive: Dale Edward Hughes of Reno, NV; Roger Alan Hughes, Rogers; and Thomas Jeffery Hughes, of Fair Oaks, CA. Another son, Melvin Leroy Hughes, Jr., preceded her in death. Thelma is also survived by several grandchildren.

There are five sisters and three brothers: Juanita Faulk of Struthers; Shirley Brewer of Lisbon; Alice Horner, also of Lisbon; Sue Watson and her husband, Melvin of Rogers; Rose Halligan of Lisbon; Carl “Conner” Kearns, Jr. and his wife, Sylvia, of Cleveland; William Kearns of Yuba City, CA; and John Kearns and his wife, Sherri, of Alliance, OH. Thelma was preceded by a sister, Iva Mae LeFebvre.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Evangelist Will Montgomery will conduct a funeral service at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
