Obituary for Jacqueline E. Thompson (Hargraves)

Jacqueline E. “Jackie” Hargraves Thompson, formerly of Calcutta Smith Ferry Road, slipped peacefully and assuredly into Heaven early Sunday morning, October 26, 2014 at East Liverpool City Hospital.

She was born in East Liverpool on December 7, 1927, a daughter of the late George Hargraves, Sr. and Carrie Karcher Hargraves and had spent her lifetime in this area.

A 1945 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Jackie was a proud member of the ELHS Alumni Association and its Olde Guard. A longtime member of the 1st Church of the Nazarene, she belonged to the Homebuilder’s Sunday School Class and Women’s Ministries. For many years, she enjoyed the fellowship of the Faith Community Women’s Missionary Society. Her faith sustained her throughout the trials of her life, and in her final days, she was ready to go “home”.

Jackie had been associated with the former Smith & Phillips for many years, and later worked in the office at Sanford Plumbing until 1983. She was a quiet worker and a constant supporter, and was most proud of her role as mom, grandma and great-grandma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Herbert Thompson, whom she married on May 22, 1982 and considered the “love of her life”. The two shared countless happy memories until his death on June 28, 2002.

Survivors include her daughter, Candy Solterbeck and her husband, Mike, of East Liverpool, along with a special granddaughter, Erin Volino and her husband, Louie, of Niles. Two great-grandsons also survive, Michael and Dominick Volino.

Jackie also leaves behind her step-daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Russell and her husband, Jim, and Dorothy Sue “Dottie” Pike, along with a step-son, Jerry H. Thompson and his wife, Freda, all of East Liverpool. A niece, Carol Methe and her husband, Bob, survive as well as two nephews, David Hargraves and his wife, Judy, and Michael Hargraves and his wife, Becky.

There are seven step-grandchildren: Ginny Chamberlain (Scott); Betsy Kithas (Andy); Rod Russell (Melissa); Roxie Trenkelbach (John); Marty Pike (Penny); Tricia Cunningham (Matt); and Joanne Thompson (Matt). Also surviving are 13 step-great-grandchildren: Rachel and Matt Chamberlain; Lauren and Tyler Kithas; Brittany, Ashley and Jimmy Russell; Keri Fetty-Price; Jeb and Taylor Pike; and Ava, Carmen and Harper Cunningham, along with four step-great-great-grandchildren: Landon Russell; Linken and Leeland Price; and Braxton Pike.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, George Hargraves, Jr., who died in 2005.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on ¬¬¬¬Wednesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Tanta Luckhardt-Hendricks of Emanuel Presbyterian Church officiating.

Jackie will be laid to rest at Calcutta Cemetery, after which time family and friends will gather for a luncheon at the Dawson Family Center.

Memorial contributions in Jackie’s name may be made to the Faith Community Women’s Missionary Society, c/o 48133 Bell School Road, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.

The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the care Jackie received from her Crossroads family, as well as Dr. Kamlesh Aggarwal, but who was more than a doctor, but was also a dear friend.
