Obituary for Theodore R. Nusser

One of the Lord’s most faithful servants, Rev. Theodore R. “Ted” Nusser, left his earthly home to join his wife and other loved ones in Heaven early Thanksgiving morning, November 27, 2014. Rev. Nusser, formerly of Ohio Avenue in East Liverpool, passed away at the Calcutta Health Care Center, where he had resided in recent years. He was 95. Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”

A son of the late Theodore and Ruth Springer Nusser, he was born in East Liverpool on October 1, 1919. A 1937 graduate of East Liverpool High School, he had spent much of his life in this area. A World War II veteran, he served with the 37th Infantry Division in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, and later was the recipient of the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, the Silver Star medal, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

An ordained Methodist minister, he served churches in Yorkville, Rayland, Rush Run, Briar Hill, Brays Chapel, Pine Grove and Mount Zion throughout his career. Along with Dorothy, he traveled extensively and made eleven short term missionary trips to Haiti. His love of people, combined with his deep faith, left an indelible impression on all whose lives he touched. 1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

He is survived by a son, Terry R. Nusser and his wife, Rebecca, of Flemington, New Jersey, and by a daughter, Sue Richman and her husband, John, of Calcutta, Ohio.

Also surviving are six grandchildren: Michael Nusser and his wife, Shannon; Melissa (Nusser) Lingard and her husband, Matt; Carrie Nusser-Wik and her husband, Christopher; Stephen Richman and his wife, Rachel, Sarah Richman, and Matthew Russell and his wife, Becky. Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday, where the family will be present from 3 to 8 p.m.
