Obituary for Richard T. McGeehan

Richard T. (Dick) McGeehan, 90, of Chester, died on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at 10:47 p.m. surrounded by his loving family.

Born on December 9, 1924, in East Liverpool, Ohio he was the son of the late Vince and Bessie Webb McGeehan. Dick graduated in 1942 from East Liverpool High School and in 1948 from Geneva College where he majored in Business Administration. While at Geneva he played football as a starting center and linebacker.

Dick was self-employed as a Transportation Agent for 38 years for various trucking companies. He retired in 1991.

A dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester, he served as an usher and a lector. He also served on parish council and men’s club.

Dick was a veteran of the United States Army from 1943 – 1945, serving during World War II as combat support attached to Patton’s Third Army. He also served as enlisted reserve during the Korean War from 1950 – 1951. He was a member of the American Legion Post 121 of Chester.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Wanda Dawson McGeehan, a son, Lt. Col. Mark C. McGeehan; two sisters, Claire Calhoun and Nelda Olsen; and two brothers, James D. McGeehan and Vincent J. McGeehan and two great grandchildren.

Other survivors include five daughters, Kathy Hissom of Chester, Joyce Brothers and her husband Ashvin of Chester, Marcie Martin and her husband Mike of New Cumberland, Jane Moran and her husband Ken of Cranberry Township, Pa, and Amy Porter and her husband Mitch of Chester; and three sons, Tom and his wife Vickii of Dallas, TX, Vince and his wife Sherrie of Lebanon, Oh, and Dan and his wife Cathy of Wellsville, Oh.

In addition, there are 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Father Eric Antwi will be the celebrant for a Mass of Christian Burial with liturgy on December 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday December 17, 2014 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool, Ohio where the rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be at at Locust Hill Cemetery where the Tri-State Burial Group will conduct full military honors.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Sacred Heart Hall for fellowship.
