Obituary for Beverly Rae-Mary Ward (Beverly DeSarro)

Beverly Rae Mary DeSarro Ward, lifetime area resident, passed away suddenly Thursday, January 22, 2015 surrounded by her family at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. She was 61.

Born in East Liverpool, November 25, 1953, she was a daughter of the late John and Eileen Cornell DeSarro. She was graduated from the former Immaculate Conception School and later from Wellsville High School.

Since 2007, she has been the smiling face and uplifting voice of the Dawson Funeral Home, working as an administrative assistant, supporting nearly every phase of its daily operations. Previously, she worked at the former Potters Medical Center, Tri-State Cancer Center and the Law Offices of Jackman S. Vodrey.

She would follow the activities of her son’s sports career during high school and college and more recently her husband’s Chester Old Timers baseball games. An avid Potters fan and supporter during her son’s time in school, she was active in the Blue & White Touchdown Club, where she would assist the organization’s fundraising efforts as well as the monthly meetings at the Clock Tower and feeding the team. She enjoyed sports and following her favorite teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates and Steelers, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. She also enjoyed vacationing at the beach.

Above all other things in her life, she was devoted to her entire family, first to her husband of 22 years, Lou Ward. The couple married April 21, 1992, as well as a son, Louie Ward of Columbus, Ohio.

She also leaves behind a sister, Jo Hobbs, and her husband Cy, of Chester, and a brother, Bill DeSarro, and his wife Karen, of East Liverpool. She will also be sadly missed by her many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. She loved her four-legged “girls” Abby and Jett.

Friends may visit Sunday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 7 p.m. where a remembrance service will be held at 7 p.m. Fr. Peter Haladej will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church.

Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Wellsville.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
