Obituary for Sara L. Hague (Van Fossan)

Former Curry Street resident Sara L. Hague, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Hennis Care Centre in Dover, Ohio, where she had resided for the past 15 months. She was 92.

She was born in East Liverpool on December 19, 1922, a daughter of the late Harold D. and Esther M. Geisz Van Fossan. She was a 1940 graduate of East Liverpool High School, and remained in this area until moving to the Dover area to be closer to family.

Soon after high school, she married Herbert H. Yager, who was killed in action during World War II, leaving her at home with two small children. She later married Jack Hague, and remained a devoted homemaker until he preceded her in death in 1994.

A member of the 1st United Methodist Church in East Liverpool, Sara belonged to the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association, as well as the Lady Elks, and she had volunteered at the snack bar at the East Liverpool City Hospital for many years. In her spare time, she also enjoyed bowling and had belonged to several leagues.

Surviving is her son, Herb Yager, of East Liverpool, as well as a son-in-law, Robert J. Bowden, of Bolivar, OH. Sara also leaves behind five grandchildren: Beth Ann Yager of Rushville, OH, Brian H. Yager and his wife, Nichole, of Coshocton, Rae Ann Bowden of Dover, OH, Robin L. Bowden of Oakdale, MN, and Karissa M. Sicklesmith and her husband, Eric, of Lisbon. Another grandson, Derrick Whittingon, preceded her in death. There are six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Sara was also preceded in death in January, 2013 by her daughter, Barbara Yager Bowden, and by her daughter-in-law, Cindy Yager, who passed away in November, 2011. In addition, two sisters and a brother preceded her: Rosetta Shallcross, Marjorie Mitterling and Harold “Sonny” Van Fossan.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday, where the family will be present from noon until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Larry Hukill of the 1st United Methodist Church will officiate at the service to be held at the funeral home.

Family and friends will then gather for a continued time of fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.

Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
