Obituary for James T. Eckstein

James T. “Jim” Eckstein, of East Liverpool, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015. He was 78.

Born in East Liverpool, June 16, 1936, he was a son of the late Edward E. “Eli” and Rose Ellen Deem Eckstein. A resident of this area all his life, he worked at Quaker State for many years. Following his retirement, he worked at The Review. He had also worked at Homer Laughlin China, American Vitrified and Crucible.

He attended Boyce United Methodist Church and enjoyed camping and golfing. He had officiated nearly every sport and coached the East End Red Devils at one time.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Ruth Adkins Eckstein, whom he married June 16, 1955. A son survives as well, David K. Eckstein, and his wife Carrie, of East Liverpool, along with three grandchildren: David T. Eckstein, Joshua Lee Eckstein and Andrew James Eckstein. He also leaves behind a brother, John Edward Eckstein, Sr., of Dennison, Ohio as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen S. George; and a son, Dennis J. Eckstein; as well as 10 sisters: Leona Virginia DiLorenzo, Ida Blanche McFall, Mary Ellen Montgomery, Esther Mae Hill, Betty Margaret Bagley, Lucy Belle Eckstein, Veda Leann Baker, Elizabeth Emma “Betty” White, Hester "Viola" Reed, and an infant sister; and three brothers: Joseph William “Buck” Eckstein, Eli “Doll” Eckstein and John F. Eckstein.

Friends may visit Monday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Alvin Talkington will conduct a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.
