EAST LIVERPOOL – Elizabeth Pope Carter, of Erie Street, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, April 22, 2015. She was 89.

Born in Midland, February 8, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Deacon Ralph D. and Lois Smith Pope. A resident of this area all her life, she was a loyal member of First Baptist Church in Midland where she was the piano player for 59 dedicated years.

On August 15, 1990, Mrs. Carter was recognized by President George H. W. Bush as a "Point of Light Award” recipient which recognized citizens working to aid their communities through volunteer work, promoting private, non-governmental solutions to social issues.

Her husband, Richard W. Carter, preceded her in death on December 29, 2008. The couple married August 26, 1949. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ilene Golding, and two brothers, Ralph and James Pope.

Survivors include her two sons, Ralph D. Carter, and Richard S. “Ricky” Carter, and his wife Cathy, all of East Liverpool. She will be sadly missed by her eight grandchildren: Derek Carter, Shawnita Bowen, Braxton Carter, Shannon Pruitt, Eric Carter, Jesse Carter, Cierra Carter, and Katee Carter and eight great-grandchildren, Preston Foster, Derek Carter Jr., Shauntrese Carter, Foster Carter, Chaz Pruitt, Camden Pruitt, Arian Parsons, Brittyn Carter, Zayden Matthews.
