Obituary for James H. Canton

EAST LIVERPOOL – James H. Canton, of St. George Street, passed away suddenly Thursday, April 23, 2015 at his home. He was 79.

Born in Lackawanna, New York, November 13, 1935, he was a son of the late James and Helen Connell Canton. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he worked for 36 years for the Ferro Louthan Corporation. He was a member of the former St. Ann’s Catholic Church and then a member of Holy Trinity Parish.

A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1955, he was a life-member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association and one of its most dedicated volunteers. He was a member of the Leadership Gift Society and unselfishly gave of himself by donating countless hours of his time assisting the organization in various ways since its inception.

Jim and his wife, Emma Hunter Canton, were inseparable. They married on June 12, 1972 and did everything together. There is a son, Daniel P. Canton, of Austintown, as well as two grandchildren, Steven James Canton and Shade Rose Canton.

He also leaves behind two sisters, Martha “Marty” Vandenberg, and her husband James, of Minnesota, and Ruth Keys of East Liverpool, and two brothers, John “Jack” Canton, and his wife Debbie, of Massillon, and Robert “Bob” Canton of Salem.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene Canton.

Private funeral arrangements have been completed by the Dawson Funeral Home.
