Obituary for Ron Tice

EAST LIVERPOOL – Local contractor and lifetime area resident David Ronald “Ron” Tice II passed away at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center of complications from heart surgery over a week ago. He was 61.

A beloved son of David Ronald and Virginia “Jenny” Fiorello Tice of East Liverpool, he was born in East Liverpool on December 17, 1953.

Ron was a 1972 graduate of East Liverpool High School and remained a proud alumnus; he served as the general contractor of the ELHSAA clock tower project when it was restored in 1992. Later, he would lend his talents during the establishment of the Lou Holtz Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame and continued the ongoing maintenance of the facility.

Always busy helping others, Ron’s work ethic was instilled in him at a young age, when he and his siblings began distributing newspapers from their parents’ garage. No matter how big or small was the task at hand, Ron always maintained his sweet temperament and had a kind smile for one and all.

For many years, he worked alongside his son and “chief consultant”, Mike, as owner of R. Tice Builders; his craftsmanship is evident in many area structures and homes. When he wasn’t working, he was happy fixing things and doing outside tasks at his home in Elkrun Township.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Shirley Jacobs Tice, whom he married on August 28, 1983.

Ron is also survived by his son, Michael “Mike” Tice and his wife, Crystal, of East Liverpool, along with a daughter, Jennifer Morehead and her husband, Ryan, of East Liverpool. In addition, a granddaughter, Gwendolyn, survives, as well as six brothers and one sister: Charles “Chuck” Tice and his wife, Cathy, of Roswell, Georgia; Donald Tice, also of Roswell; Daniel Tice and his wife, Kim, of Huntsville, Alabama; Christine Buchheit and her husband, Bob, of Negley; Michael Tice and his wife, Julie, of Wellsville; Mark Tice and his wife, Juli of East Liverpool; and Jeffrey Tice and his wife, Natalie, of Fredericksburg, Virginia.

There are many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from 2 to 8 p.m.

Services will take place at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at Three Blessings, the former Casting Club on McCoy Avenue, for a time of continued remembrance and fellowship.
