Obituary for Margaret Jane Atwood (Clark)

EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO – Peggy J. Atwood, 87, of East Liverpool, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015, surrounded by her family at the East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, September 5, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Edna Edwards Clark. She lived in this area most of her life and was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wellsville. Along with her husband, she owned and operated the former Clark’s Grocery Store on Lisbon Street which later became Pleasant Heights Superette.

A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1945, she volunteered with Helping Hands at East Liverpool City Hospital. She loved to shop but above all things in life she loved and adored her family, especially following the activities of her grandchildren.

Her husband, James F. Atwood, preceded her in death on September 30, 1983. She was also preceded in death by a son, James “Joe” Atwood.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Atwood and his wife, Darla, of Wellsville, and four grandchildren, Jamie Boyle and her husband, Cory, of Wellsville, Ashley Morrow and her husband, Tony, of Clinton, Pennsylvania, Abby Atwood of East Liverpool, and Aimee Dalrymple and her husband, Marcus, of Wellsville. There are also five great-grandchildren: Haley, Madison, Emma, Amare and Coby, along with expecting another great-grandchild in January.

She also leaves behind a brother, James Clark and his wife, Lillian, of Pittsburgh.

Friends may visit Monday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Fr. Eric Antwi of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will conduct a Catholic Funeral Rite at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery.
