Obituary for Kenneth Laird Ibbs

Darlington, PA- Kenneth Laird Ibbs, 87, formerly of Cora Street, East Liverpool, Ohio died Saturday, July 4th, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Hospice Center at the Heritage Valley Hospital in Beaver, Pennsylvania following a brief illness.

Born April 20th, 1928 in East Liverpool, he was the son of the late Robert F. Ibbs who passed away February 12th, 1939 and also the late Mary Alma LeMoine Ibbs who passed away November 16th, 1965. He spent his childhood years growing up on Jefferson Street in the Irishtown section of East Liverpool. A lifetime area resident, he retired in 1989 as a mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service working out of the East Liverpool and then the Wellsville offices. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. For many years, after delivering mail through the day, he would then work every evening in the money room at the former Waterford Park in West Virginia.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WW II serving in Battle Creek, Michigan.

To anyone that knew him, they understood that he was truly one of the few remaining “Die Hard” fans of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns beginning with their inception into Pro Football in 1946’s All-American Football Conference. Even though the Browns hadn’t won a Championship since 1964, at the start of every new season he would strongly insist that this year was going to be THE YEAR! After each and every win, he would proclaim that the Browns were never going to lose another game. He was truly a walking encyclopedia of Cleveland Browns history and trivia.

A very important part of his daily routine was to make sure that he never missed watching The Price Is Right and Jeopardy, while often turning the channel to check on the Stock Market.

His wife, Rosemary Cline Ibbs, whom he married July 1st, 1950, passed away March 6th, 2013. Survivors include one daughter, Gretchen L. Parkus; and one son, Daniel T. Ibbs and his wife Rhonda K. of Pittsburgh, PA; There are six grandchildren, Michael D. Long, Morgan E. Hoder and her husband Michael, Megan R. Weddle, Katie Ibbs, Bo P. Ibbs, and Paige K. Thomas; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition, he also leaves behind one sister, Mary Warren and her husband James of Melbourne, FL. He was preceded in death by one sister, Cornelia “Jane” Carter on December 13th, 2014.

A private family graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 6th 2015 at Riverview Cemetery in East Liverpool with Ken’s family friend and former postal co-worker Joe Hendricks officiating. The Dawson Funeral Home was in charge of all local arrangements.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to: Gateway Hospice; 9380 McKnight Road, Suite #201 Arcadia Court; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15237
