Obituary for Martha J. Wycoff (Starr)

Devoted wife, mother and grandmother Martha J. Starr Wycoff passed away at her home on Vine Street in East Liverpool at 10:25 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015. Martha had been surrounded by her loving family over the past week since becoming ill.

She was born on December 24, 1930 in Steubenville, a daughter of the late Hugh and Helen Winski Starr. A 1948 graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School, she remained close with her classmates and loved attending reunions.

On April 7, 1956, she married her husband, Robert D. Wycoff, and they settled in East Liverpool to raise their family. Their home was a welcoming place – not just for their own children, but for legions of neighbors whom she treated like family. She was interested in the lives of others – especially when it came to her grandchildren.

Martha had been a longtime member of Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church, and also belonged to the Lady Elks #258. She was a familiar face at The Bar, which she and her husband owned and operated for many years.

Surviving her are two daughters and four sons: Robin Moadus and her husband, Dave, of East Liverpool; Lauren Fontaine and her husband, David, of Reisterstown, MD; Leonard Wycoff and his wife, Lisa, of Lisbon; David Wycoff of East Liverpool; Tom Wycoff and his wife, Mari, of Duluth, GA; and Greg Wycoff and his wife, Terrie Lynn, of Cary, NC.

Seven grandchildren survive as well: Jacob Wycoff and his wife, Sujata; Rachel Wycoff and her fiancé, Aaron Thomas; Seth Wycoff; Caleb Wycoff and his fiancée, Lauren Evans; Allison Wycoff; Gregory Wycoff and Claire Wycoff, along with a great-granddaughter, Molly Miller.

Martha leaves behind a sister, Garnet Kobily, and a brother, Leonard Star and his wife, Phyllis, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Another sister, Patricia Sellitti, and a brother, Roland Starr, preceded her in death.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday where the family will be present from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Monday, with Dr. Robert Cuttica, Deacon at St. Christine’s Parish in Youngstown, as the celebrant.

Martha will be laid to rest beside her husband at Union Cemetery in New Manchester, WV.
