Obituary for Ruth Ann Kennedy (Jeanguenat)

Ruth Ann Kennedy, 87, who spent her entire life in the East Liverpool area, passed away early Monday morning, November 16, 2015 at the East Liverpool City Hospital. Since August, she had resided at Assisted Living Ministries downtown, but had lived for many years on Strader Road prior to moving to the Highlands Apartments five years ago.

She was born on November 8, 1928 in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late Kenneth Dale Jeanguenat and Ruth Eileen Barnhart Jeanguenat Caruso. A 1946 graduate of East Liverpool High School, she soon began working at Wetzel Dry Cleaning, where she met her future husband, Richard G. “Dick” Kennedy. She had also been a dental assistant for Dr. Jay Kinsey at one time, and had done seasonal work at the former Hill’s Department Store and Riverview Florists. But primarily, she worked at making her house a home, making it a place where everyone felt welcome and loved.

In her younger years, Ruth Ann belonged to the Sweet Adelines and appreciated music throughout her life. She will be remembered for her enthusiasm and involvement in her childrens’ activities while at Beaver Local, and loved staying involved in their lives. As she got older, she enjoyed playing the organ, and became interested in writing poetry.

Her husband, Dick, preceded her in death on June 29, 1995.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Jo Payne and her husband, William, of Delaware, OH; and by her son, Kim Kennedy and his wife, Mary Ann, of East Liverpool. There is one granddaughter, Jamie Payne, of Sunbury, OH. Ruth Ann also leaves behind step-grandchildren, Roxanne Shackelford, Michael Steele, Carrie Bee, and Jeffrey Payne and their children, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

She was also preceded in death by her beloved friend, Kenny Frontz.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 6 p.m., followed by services to be held at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Norm Eckert officiating.

Ruth Ann will be laid to rest beside her husband at Yellow Creek Cemetery.
