Obituary for Dorothy L Vocial (Nichols)

Dorothy L. Nichols Vocial, who made her home on Riverview Street in East Liverpool for many years, passed away at 5:58 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2016 at Stone Pear Pavilion, where she had resided in recent years. She was 96.

Born in East Liverpool on September 6, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Louis H. and Deborah Smith Nichols.

Educated in city schools, she was a 1937 graduate of East Liverpool High School, was a member of the ELHSAA and loved the annual Olde Guard Luncheon. She began work at the former First National Bank as a teller, and remained there for over 40 years until her retirement.

Dorothy was a lifetime member and past treasurer of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and had belonged to the United Presbyterian Women at one time.

She and her husband, Robert W. Vocial, spent the winter months in Arizona for many years. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1990.

Surviving her is a brother-in law, Ed Vocial and his wife, Betty, of East Liverpool, and their son William Vocial, and his wife Sally, of Belpre, Ohio, as well as four great-nieces and a great-nephew.

Also preceding her in death was a sister, Irene Nichols.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Rev. Katrina Lewis of the Westminster Presbyterian Church will conduct services to the held at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riverview Cemetery.
