Obituary for Mary Katherine Adney (Ensinger)

MARY KATHERINE ENSINGER ADNEY, 89

EAST LIVERPOOL – Lifetime area resident Mary Katherine Ensinger Adney went to be with her Savior on Monday evening, February 22, 2016 in the presence of her family. She was 89.

A daughter of the late Guy Homer and Lucy Reeves Ensinger, she was born in East Liverpool on June 9, 1926. A 1944 graduate of East Liverpool High School, she had waitressed at the former Elite Diner and had also worked at the telephone company.

On April 4, 1958, she married Otto Wade Adney, and they made their home on Grandview Street in East Liverpool for many years, where she had been a devoted wife and mother. Wade preceded her in death on April 12, 2000. She loved embroidering, sewing, reading, and doing jigsaw puzzles – but most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.

An active and involved member of United Brethren in Christ Church for over 40 years, she was a familiar face there – whether helping with funeral meals, assisting with Bible School, or serving as the financial secretary. Mary took great joy in creating a handmade quilt for each baby born into her church family for many years. Above all, she demonstrated to others what it meant to have a servant’s heart.

She became a member of Northside Community Church several years ago, attending services as recently as Sunday.

Surviving her are two daughters: Marianne Louk and her husband, Tim, of East Liverpool, and Carolyn R. Adney, with whom she resided. There are three grandchildren: Shawn Louk and his wife, Renee; Joshua Louk and his wife, Kimberly; and Hannah Louk, as well as three great-grandchildren, Elaina, Maddie and Charlie, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were three brothers: Guy Homer Ensinger, Jr., Kenneth Ensinger, and Robert Ensinger. Mary is survived by sisters-in-law, Rosemarie Ensinger, Patricia Ensinger, and Doris Adney, along with brother-in-law, James Adney.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Pastor Larry Rose of Northside Community Church will officiate at services to be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Family and friends will gather at Northside Church afterward for a continued time of fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartbeat of Columbiana County, 130 West Fifth Street, East Liverpool, OH 43920 or to American Spirit Academy Athletic Department, 46682 Florence Street, East Liverpool, OH 43920.
