Obituary for William S Shinton

William S. Shinton, 83

Calcutta, OH – William S. Shinton, 83, of Pugh Road in Calcutta, passed away Thursday morning, May 12, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Glasgow, Pennsylvania on September 14, 1932, he was a son of the late Thomas and Dorothy Hall Shinton. A resident of this area all his life, he was a 1951 graduate of East Liverpool High School.

Bill served with the U.S. Marine Corps, and had worked for many years at the former Crucible Steel Co. He was also an owner of the East Liverpool Yacht Club in Chester and had been a surveyor for over 20 years.

Surviving is his wife, Eva Jean Higgins Shinton, whom he married on August 5, 1953, his daughter, Vicky Bowers, and her husband Charles, of Lisbon, and his son William T. Shinton, also of Lisbon.

He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Bill Shinton, Mark Geon, Josh Beaver, Wes Bowers and Jorjanna Bowers, 10 great-grandchildren and longtime friend Larry Becker.

In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Brown.

Friends may visit Sunday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Chaplain Duane Quesenberry, of Community Hospice, will conduct services at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Monday where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors. Friends and family will then gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.

Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
