Obituary for Alta M Wetzel (Foutts)

Alta M. Wetzel, 92

EAST LIVERPOOL – Alta M. Wetzel, of East Liverpool, passed away Sunday morning, May 15, 2016, at Crossroads. She was 92.

Born in Akron, Ohio, September 5, 1923, she was a daughter of the late William and Amelia Foutts. She was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1941. She served in the U.S. Navy, in the WAVES for three years in Washington, D.C. She attended the St. Clair Avenue Church of Christ and was a member of the American Legion Post 374.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. “Joby” Wetzel, on July 20, 1988. The couple married March 5, 1948. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Eunice, and four brothers, Miller, William, Russell and her twin Alton.

Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Beckner of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and two sons, Joseph W. “Joby” Wetzel and his wife, Joyce, of Chapin, South Carolina, and Robert “Bob” Wetzel and his wife, Suzanne, of Monroe, Michigan. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Joseph, Kathryn, Blane, Keenan and Torin.

Evangelist Will Montgomery of the church will conduct a memorial service 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.

The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in care of Community Hospice, 2341 East State Street, Salem, Ohio 44460.
