Obituary for Betty Jaynes Kiernan (Jaynes)

BETTY JAYNES KIERNAN, 80

EAST LIVERPOOL – Betty Jaynes Kiernan, who most recently resided with her daughter on River Road in East Liverpool, slipped peacefully into her eternal rest late Sunday evening, May 29, 2016. She was 80.

She now joins her husband and “love of her life”, Brian P. Kiernan, her daughters, and other beloved family and friends who were waiting for her in Heaven.

A daughter of the late Charles and Mollie McClaskey Jaynes, Betty was born in Akron, Ohio on December 30, 1935. Her family came to this area in 1949; she remained here ever since, and had attended East Liverpool schools.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Schmidbauer, with whom she resided, and Cindy Roach and her husband, Lester “Danny”, both of East Liverpool, along with her son, Don Harris and his wife, Cindy, of Chester. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Becky Parson, who died in August of 1989, and Cathy Miller, who died in May 2008.

She also leaves behind eight grandchildren whom she showered with love: Genau Davis and her husband, Lonnie “D #1”; Jim Harris and his wife, Renee; Shelly Crane; Crystal Schmidbauer and her companion Don Mutkis; Ty Harris and his wife, Jody; Afton Parson; Danielle Green and her husband, Rob; and Ashly Parson. There are twenty great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends, as well as her sister, Loretta “Bobbie” Taylor of Las Vegas. Betty was preceded in death by her siblings: Edith Miller, Jean Frink, Melda “Doni” Segin, and Charles Jaynes.

Betty took great pride and joy in her family, and opened her home to all their friends when her children were growing up. She had also managed the cafeteria at Community College Beaver County through AVI Food Systems, retiring after 18 years. She appreciated the special memories made on the river with her beloved Brian, whom she married on June 28, 1987; he passed away on February 15, 2011.

Her faith was very important to her, and she had attended the 1st Church of the Nazarene in East Liverpool. There, she formed meaningful friendships, especially when volunteering at the Clothes Closet.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday, where the family will be present from 3 to 8 p.m.

Services will take place at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, with Rev. David Peterson of the church officiating.

Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riverview Cemetery, after which time friends and family will gather at the 1st Church of the Nazarene for a continued time of fellowship.

Per Betty’s wishes, contributions in her name may be sent to: Glenmoor American Legion Post #376, Boys State Fund, 45940 Y&O Road, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920 or to the Elks Building Fund, 620 Broadway, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.
