Obituary for Adam Bradford Steele

ADAM BRADFORD STEELE, 33

KENT, OH – Adam Bradford Steele died of cancer on July 9, 2016. He was born in East Liverpool on October 6, 1982, a beloved son of Jon and Katherine “Kathy” Betteridge Steele of East Liverpool.

A 2001 graduate of East Liverpool High School, he was a member of the ELHS Choir and the Thespians. While in high school, he appeared in numerous theatrical productions and played the part of Tevye in “Fiddler On the Roof”. Adam was a longtime Boy Scout, and was a fifth-year Pipestone, and Brotherhood in Order of the Arrow. He was most proud to be an Eagle Scout.

Adam attended Kent State University at both the East Liverpool and main campuses, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Diversified Language Arts, and his Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.

For several years, Adam had worked in the library at the East Liverpool campus and was currently serving as head of Circulation Services at the Kent State University Library in Kent. He was also an assistant professor at Kent State, and belonged to the American Library Association, as well as the KSU Free Thinkers. For ten years, Adam served as the facilitator for the Freshman Orientation summer reading project.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by four brothers: Brian Fatah Steele; Nathan John Charles Steele and his wife, Caitlin; Jordan Matthew Steele and his wife, Marissa; and Quintin Jon Steele. Adam also leaves behind his fiancée, Kimberly Martin.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Evelyn Steele, and Richard and Mary Betteridge, as well as an uncle, John Charles Betteridge.

Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Dawson Funeral Home, 215 West Fifth Street, East Liverpool. An informal remembrance ceremony, led by his four brothers, will take place at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

In honor of Adam, the family would encourage reading, especially to a child. A library of children’s books is being compiled for Adam’s niece or nephew who is due to be born to Nathan and Caitlin in December. Donations of books for this child in Adam’s memory will be appreciated, and may be brought to the funeral home on Sunday.
