James Woodrow “Joe” Reckner, 71

EAST LIVERPOOL – James Woodrow “Joe” Reckner, of East Liverpool, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Valley Oaks Care Center. He was 71.

Born in Georgetown, Pennsylvania, April 18, 1945, he was a son of the late John Calvin Reckner and Kathryn Belle Newland Reckner Webber. He graduated from the Ohio Valley Business College where he studied accounting. For many years he worked various jobs in the horse racing business for Waterford Park, Charlestown and Florida Downs.

He is survived by a son Dennis James Reckner of California; seven sisters: Helen Ziegler, Jean Reckner and Patty Duffield, all of East Liverpool, Mary Savina, Jennie Cyphers and Barbara Fulmer, all of West Virginia, and Diane Hamilton of South Carolina; as well as four brothers: Calvin Reckner and Charles Reckner, both of West Virginia, and Bill and Doug Reckner, both of Ohio.

He also leaves behind his companion of many years Arlene Shuman of East Liverpool, along with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Those wishing to do so may make contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements have been conducted by the Dawson Funeral Home.
