Obituary for Gary C Dawson

Gary C. Dawson, 73

EAST LIVERPOOL – Gary C. Dawson, of Wellsville, passed away Tuesday evening at the East Liverpool City Hospital. He was 73.

Born in East Liverpool, November 15, 1942, he was a son of the late Clyde L. “Daisy” and Martha Naomi Whitaker Dawson. He was a member of the Wellsville High School Class of 1960.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in the Mediterranean on board the USS Intrepid. Methodist by faith, he began working for Ohio Edison in the late 1960s which later became First Energy where he was associated with the Sammis Plant and later the Shippingport facility.

He was a lifetime member and past commander of the American Legion Post 70 where he was also a member of its national championship drill team.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Pugh Dawson, at home. This year, the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary August 6th.

He also will be fondly remembered by his sister, Renee Taylor and her husband, William, of Calcutta as well as a niece Traci Savina and her husband, James, of East Liverpool and a nephew Rich Taylor and his wife, Hillary, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a great-nephew Tony Savina.

He is also survived by Jonathan Snyder, Tim Pugh and Ian Palmer along with many additional nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He will also be sadly missed by his canine companion, Walter.

Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Dale Sutton will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery where the full military honors will be conducted.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
