Obituary for Carson G Shreve

Mr. Carson G. Shreve, 94

CALCUTTA, OHIO – Carson G. Shreve, of Calcutta, passed away Wednesday morning, November 16, 2016 at the Calcutta Health Care Center. He was 94.

Born in Smithfield, West Virginia, February 2, 1922, he was a son of the late Elias and Melissa Stout Shreve.

A World War II veteran, Carson served his country with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre.

He worked at the former Crucible Steel Company, retiring in 1982.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Garnet Hickman Shreve, on April 28, 2002. The couple married June 20, 1947.

Three daughters survive: Rosemary Maxwell of New Cumberland; Charlene Hendrixson of Columbus; and Irene Douglass and her husband, Bill, of East Liverpool.

There are 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. A sister, Mary Lou of New Martinsville, also survives, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Carson was preceded in death by his daughter, Norene Kay “Sis” Durbin, and by a grandson, Jack Moore, and a great-grandson, Andy McCoy. He was also preceded by two brothers, Ardell Shreve and Ray Shreve, and by a sister, Nora Lemasters.

Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Norman Eckert will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Calcutta Cemetery.
