Obituary for Donald K Golden

On Friday evening, January 27, 2017, Donald K. “Don” Golden passed away surrounded by his loved ones at his home on Campground Road in Wellsville, following an illness of several months. He was 76.

A son of the late Donald R. and Elsie Glynn Golden, he was born in East Liverpool on June 26, 1940 and remained in this area for most of his life.

Don was a 1958 graduate of East Liverpool High School and soon enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany from 1958 to 1960. Following active duty, he served in the Reserves until 1964.

He was a proud steelworker, working as a steel roller at Crucible Steel for 18 years until the mill’s closing. Don was then associated with Honeywell Electronics, retiring after 17 years, and later was a toll collector on the Newell Bridge.

Don was quiet and kind by nature and loved following Pittsburgh sports – particularly the Steelers and the Pirates. He was a Civil War buff, and never got tired of reading historical books. Each year, he looked forward to his annual tour of Gettysburg with friends.

His wife, Ruby E. Golden, whom he married in 1969, preceded him in death on February 15, 2013. Don’s family remembers his great love for her and how the two of them enjoyed spending time together – especially at the beach.

He leaves behind his son, Shawn Golden and his wife, Wendy, of Boardman, along with three daughters: Amy Rudder and her husband, Bob, of Wellsville; Heidi Ober and her husband, Gary, of Chester; and Roxanne Knight and her husband, Michael, of East Liverpool. There are seven grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Delores Bradford and Sally Abrams.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Pastor Mike Dyer will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Don will be buried next to his wife, Ruby, at Locust Hill Cemetery, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors.

The family and friends will return to the Dawson Family Center following the burial for a continued time of fellowship.
