Obituary for Ruth Ann Lowe (Borger)

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Ruth Ann “Midge” Lowe, who had lived most of her life in East Liverpool, slipped peacefully into the gates of Heaven late Tuesday night, February 7, 2017 at the Golden Days Personal Care Home in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She had moved to that area in 2013 to be near her daughter and best friend, Betsy.

A daughter of the late Raymond G. and Ruth Appleby Borger, Midge was born on August 4, 1926 in East Liverpool. She was a proud member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1944, and belonged to the ELHS Alumni Association later in her life. Midge had also attended Kent State University and the Ohio Valley Business College.

With the exception of several years spent in Cleveland, Midge had made her home in East Liverpool, and was well known for her sunny disposition and warm smile. A loving mother and devoted grandmother, she enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and playing cards with friends. She also loved her church family at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, where she was a lifelong member and a tireless volunteer. She had been a part of the St. Margaret’s Guild and the Altar Guild for many years.

Midge had been the Office Manager for Drs. Fred and William Banfield, and had also worked for the Social Security Administration.

On July 9, 1989, she married Ernest A. Lowe, who preceded her in death on January 30, 2001.

She leaves behind her daughter, Betsy Blankenship and her husband, Jeff, of Lilburn, GA, as well as her grandchildren: Matthew Muller and his wife, Samantha, of Augusta, GA, and Emmalee Muller of Lawrenceville. There is one great-grandson, Roran Muller, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is a step-daughter, Deb Gibson of Harrisburg, PA, and her children: Todd (Kate) Gibson, Andrea Gibson and Eric Gibson; and a step-son, Geoff Lowe (Elaine) of East Liverpool and their sons, Graeme Lowe, Greg Lowe and Philip Lowe. There is a step-grandson, Jake Blankenship of Asheboro, NC, and two step-granddaughters, Aubrey Hooft (Chris), of Siler City, NC, and Paige Blankenship (P.J. Hooft), and five step-great-grandchildren.

Midge was also preceded in death by her son, Kris Kirschler, who died in 1959, and by two sisters, Jane Caldwell and Sondra Borger.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Rev’d Steven McKeown will officiate at a funeral service to be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth will be buried at Columbiana County Memorial Park, after which time friends and family will return to the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
