Obituary for Lois R Myers (Carroll)

EAST LIVERPOOL – Lois R. Carroll Myers, born at home in Calcutta on December 31, 1925, passed away at the Calcutta Health Care Center at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017, with her loved ones at her side. She was 91.

A daughter of the late Ernest L. and Ruth Turner Carroll, Lois was a graduate of East Liverpool High School. For many years, she and her family owned and operated the former Carroll’s Market on Calcutta Smith Ferry Road, and she later worked as a realtor for Pearlman, Bryer and Manchi Realty in Youngstown. Lois had also been a saleswoman at Richardson Monument in Lisbon, and had operated Early Attic Antique Shop in East Liverpool. She was also well-known as a bus driver for Beaver Local High School for over 17 years.

Lois had been a member of the Beaver Local School Board from 1967 to 1971, having been the first woman to serve, and had been elected vice-president.

A lifelong member of Longs Run Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday School for nearly 60 years and had served as Sunday School Superintendent. Active in nearly every facet of the church, Lois served on session for 25 years, was the church historian, and was elected the first woman elder. She was affiliated with Presbyterian Women, serving as president of the local chapter and had held every office possible, including numerous positions on the Presbyterial committee. Lois was also a lay minister at various churches.

Her husband, Lee J. “Pudge” Myers, died on July 4, 1967. They were married in 1944.

She is survived by a son, Daniel L. Myers and his wife, Judy, of Anniston, Alabama, along with four grandsons: Shawn J. Myers and his wife, Jennifer, Nathan D. Myers, Benjamin A. Myers, and David C. Myers and his wife, Margaret, of East Liverpool.

Lois also leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Hannah, Jacob, Benjamin, Weston and Davis, as well as a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Myers of East Liverpool, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Lois was also preceded in death by her son, David R. Myers, who died on January 28, 2016. Also preceding her were two brothers, Norman L. Carroll and E. Richard Carroll.

Rev. Dr. Steven Cramer will officiate at a memorial service to be held at Long’s Run Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. Monday. Friends may visit with the family at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Following the service, a luncheon will be served in the church’s fellowship hall.

Lois will be buried beside her husband at Columbiana County Memorial Park. The Dawson Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements.
