Obituary for Ruth S McLaughlin (Stull)

Ruth S. McLaughlin, 88

COLUMBIA, MD – Ruth Ann Stull McLaughlin, 88, passed away April 1, 2017, at her home in Columbia, Maryland.

Born in 1928 in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Charles and Harriett Stull, she graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1946. She met and married C. Richard “Dick” McLaughlin in 1949. During her lifetime, Ruth attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. During her working career she managed the Sail Inn at Conneaut Lake Park, Pennsylvania, and was a desk manager at the Riverside Inn, Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania, which she succeeded in getting listed on the National Register of Historic Places. She was also desk manager of the Hotel Conneaut, Conneaut Lake Park, Pennsylvania.

Ruth and Dick lived most of their years in Pennsylvania. After retiring to Mexico Beach, FL, where they lived for over twenty years, they traveled extensively in the United States and abroad. They were married 62 years before Dick died on October 26, 2011.

Ruth leaves behind two sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Kitty McLaughlin and Glenn and April McLaughlin, and a grandson, Mark McLaughlin, to carry on the family name. A younger sister and her husband, Peggy (Stull) and Jack Barker, of East Liverpool, Ohio, also survive her.

She hopes those who remember her most are the ones she sent cards and mail to, as an enjoyable hobby, for fifty years of her life. Ruth's cremated remains will be interred Columbiana County Memorial Park next to her husband. A memorial service will be held in East Liverpool later this spring.
