Obituary for Mary Grace Winters (Bruno)

MARY GRACE BRUNO WINTERS, 91

COLUMBIANA -- Mary Grace Bruno Winters, longtime East Liverpool resident, passed away at the age of 91 on Monday morning, April 17, 2017. She had resided in Columbiana for the past 17 years and passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown.

“Grace”, as she was known to all, was born in East Liverpool on May 2, 1925, a daughter of the late John and Mary Canale Bruno. She was a 1943 graduate of East Liverpool High School; as a young girl, she had worked at Isaly’s and had taught at St. Aloysius School at one time. But she was perhaps best known for her fashion expertise and sense of style as she outfitted countless area women at the former Zack’s in downtown East Liverpool, where she was a buyer until the store’s closing.

A member of Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church, Grace later joined St. Jude Catholic Church once she relocated to Columbiana in 1999, and was a member of Jude’s Dudes. Grace worked tirelessly on the funeral luncheon committee and was very active in the Women’s Guild. She had also been a greeter for the Liturgical Ministry.

Always full of energy, Grace loved keeping up with her grandchildren, and especially enjoyed cooking for them. She was a loyal and devoted mother, sister, nana, aunt and friend, and will be remembered for her generosity to all.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Charles A. Winters, Sr., as well as her brother, Larry F. Bruno.

She is survived by her son, Charles A. Winters, Jr. and his wife, Diana, of Columbiana. There are three grandchildren: Michael Winters of Orlando, Florida, Jessica Winters of Columbiana, and Joseph “Joey” Winters and his wife, Rebecca, of Alamogordo, New Mexico. Grace also leaves behind one great-grandson, Judah Winters, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Reverend Father Christopher Cicero will be the celebrant of a memorial Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana at 11:00 a.m. Friday, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the church immediately after the service. Grace will be laid to rest at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Gracie was always so proud of her husband Chuck being a police officer…she loved children and her city of East Liverpool, therefore in lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to: FOP #29, Cops and Kids program, P.O. Box 233, E. Liverpool, OH 43920.
