R. Scott Ryan, 71

EAST LIVERPOOL – Robert Scott Ryan, of St. Clair Avenue, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at his home after a courageously fought battle with cancer. He was 71.

Born in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Robert and Olive Scott Ryan. Scott attended and was a member of the Beaver Local High School Class of 1963. For many years he was a truck driver, most recently working for Indalex in Girard.

A Vietnam Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy. Scott was a member of the American Legion Post 374 and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1064. He was also a member of the East Liverpool Lodge 681 of the Free and Accepted Masons, a 32nd Degree member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville, and the East Liverpool Commandery. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

“Scotty” enjoyed summers at Guilford Lake, reading a good Western book, woodworking, gardening, driving his red Corvette and his beloved dog and best buddy Shelby.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Eaton Ryan at home. The couple married May 10, 1986. He also leaves behind his children: Juli Tice and her husband, Mark, of East Liverpool, Dan Ryan of Salem, and Shannon Sullivan and her husband, Bill, of East Liverpool, along with his step-children: Kristen Bickel Nightingale and her husband, Stephen, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Aaron Bickel and his wife, Michelle, of Bonaire, Georgia.

There are 12 grandchildren: Mark Tice and his wife, Grace, Olivia Tice, Reid Tice, Ryan Tice, Isabella Sullivan, Danielle Ryan, Megan Ryan, Austin Nightingale, Anabel Nightingale, Sydney Bickel, Deven Bickel and Reece Bickel.

In addition, he is survived by a sister, Cynthia Millhorn and her husband, Ron, of Calcutta, an uncle who helped raise him, Charles Scott of Calcutta, and his former wife, Lora Ryan of East Liverpool.

Friends may visit Thursday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Mike DiRenzo of the Everyday Church will conduct a funeral service Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1064 will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at Olivia’s Banquet Facility, 1506 Pennsylvania Avenue (the former St. Ann’s Church) for fellowship.
