Obituary for Frances R. Bussard (Walter)

On Wednesday morning, October 11, 2017, Frances R. Walter Bussard slipped peacefully into her eternal rest at the age of 95. A longtime resident of Bank Street in East Liverpool, she had been in poor health for the last six months and died at the Calcutta Health Care Center with her loving family nearby.

She was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mayme Holler Walter, born in Wampum, Pennsylvania on July 21, 1922. A graduate of Kittaning High School, she came to this area upon her marriage to James B. Bussard on October 28, 1941.

She and Jim had been married for 73 years at the time of his passing on December 27, 2014.

Early in her marriage, Frances had worked as a welder at Curtis Wright while her husband served with the U.S. Army during World War II. She later became a devoted wife and mother, which brought her the greatest joy in her life. Always positive and upbeat, her practical and solid advice will be missed as much as her sound wisdom and outlook on life.

She was a member of Campground Community Church and also belonged to the Eastern Star.

She leaves behind her three daughters: R. Elaine Smith of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Sally A. Baker and M. Kim Montgomery, both of East Liverpool. There are five grandchildren: Christopher Baker and his wife, Rebecca of Belmont, Michigan; James E. Smith and his wife, Betsy of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Eric Baker and his wife, Mandy of East Liverpool; Ryan Montgomery and his wife, Amy of Bethel Park; and Mark Montgomery of East Liverpool. There are five great-grandchildren: Tyner J. Smith, Bronwen Smith, Gracie Baker, Emma Baker and Claire Baker, as well as a special family friend, Bonnie Weststrate of Lowell, Michigan.

Also surviving is a sister, Freda Pistarius and a brother, Ken Walter, and numerous s nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Duncan and Florence Lurch Schreckengost, and by four brothers, Paul Walter, Mervin Walter, Robert Walter, and Raymond Walter.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where an Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m.

Pastor Tom Adkins of the church will officiate at a service to be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Friday. Frances will be laid to rest beside her husband at Columbiana County Memorial Park. Following the burial, the family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
