Obituary for James Vincent Arcuragi

James V. Arcuragi, 86

EAST LIVERPOOL – James V. Arcuragi, of Dixonville, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Orchards of East Liverpool following a lengthy illness. He was 86.

Born in Wellsville, October 23, 1930, he was a son of the late Thomas and Anna Cuffaro Arcuragi. A lifetime area resident, Jim worked at the former Crucible Steel Company until 1982 and then retired from J&L Steel Company in 1992. He later worked security at the Mountainer Resort.

A veteran of Korea, he served with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 with the 65th Combat Engineers. A life-member of the American Legion Post 374 and the VFW Post 66, he started the Sons of the American Legion Post 374 and the post’s Color Guard, as well as the Korean War Veterans Organization in East Liverpool. Jim was loyal to the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group and for many years was a local representative at Buckeye Boys State. He also established “Ark’s Corner” in Dixonville.

He was a longtime member of the former St. Ann’s Church and was a member of the Wellsville High School Class of 1949.

His wife, Vivian June Bussard Arcuragi, passed away December 7, 2008. The couple married August 2, 1958. Together they raised two sons: James M. Arcuragi and his wife, Traci, and Timothy F. Arcuragi and his wife, Brenda, all of East Liverpool. There are four grandchildren: Maria Katherine, Andrew Jameson, Anna Nicole and Makayla Emily Arcuragi.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Josephine Arcuragi, Edith Arcuragi and Katherine Desenze, and a brother Joseph J. Arcuragi.

Friends may visit Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church of Holy Trinity Parish.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in care of the American Legion Post 374, 1824 Park Way, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920, for the benefit of the Buckeye Boys State or Buckeye Girls State Funds.
