Obituary for Alice Penny (Rowley)

ALICE MAE ROWLEY PENNY, 77

WELLSVILLE – Alice Mae Rowley Penny, formerly of Moore Street in East Liverpool, passed away at the age of 77 on August 14, 2017 at the home of her daughter following a lengthy illness.

A daughter of the late Joseph E. and Viola Clutter Rowley, Alice was born in Fly, Ohio on September 28, 1939, she moved to this area in 1967. A devoted mother and homemaker, Alice enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and games with her friends and attending Senior Link.

A member of the First Christian Church in Wellsville, Alice had worked at The Tea Room, Riverview Florist, Maxi’s Lunchbox, and she was a CMHA caretaker before retiring from working life.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Brenda, and her husband David “Bug” Thompson, of Wellsville, and her son, Edward D. Penny of Mississippi. There are also ten grandchildren, Dwane (Stacey), David, Derek (Carly), Nathaniel, Shannon, Charles, Emilee, Megan, Melissa, Candance; and 14 great-grandchildren, Ava, Michael, Alysse, Karsen, Makenzie, Gunner, Grayson, Alayna, Andrew, Christopher, Katie, Zachary, Logan and Gabrielle. She is also survived by Kelly Kennedy whom she considered to be her daughter.

In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death in 1985 by her husband, Elmer G. Penny whom she married on June 2, 1962, a son, Elmer S. Penny, as well as two brothers, Edward “Paul” Rowley and James Rowley.

Friends and family may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday. Pastor Mark Blakeley of the church will conduct a funeral service at 3 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
