Delmar A. “Del” Jividen, 88

NEWELL – Delmar A. “Del” Jividen, of Newell, passed away Monday, November 12, 2018 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was 88.

Born in Newell, August 11, 1930, a son of the late Roy L. and Bertie Mae Smith Jividen. A lifetime resident of Newell, Del worked at Airco Gasses since 1969 as an operator until his retirement. Previously, he worked for 20 years at Homer Laughlin China. Del was a standout football, basketball and baseball player for Wells High School in Newell where he earned First Team All-State honors in baseball. He also played briefly in the minor league system.

Del was a fan of little league and high school sports, the West Virginia Mountaineers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He was active in youth baseball as a coach and was inducted into the Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame. His love of sports was passed along to his children and grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was following the kids’ activities along with his wife Libby.

His wife, Elizabeth A. “Libby” Jividen, died December 24, 2015. The couple married September 4, 1950 and together raised four children: three daughters: Beverly Enochs and her husband, Jerry, of Newell; Cynthia “Cindy” Jividen, also of Newell; Jan Gardill of Chantilly, Virginia; and one son: Attorney David A. Jividen and his wife, Betsy, of Wheeling.

There are eight grandchildren: Chris Enochs and his wife, Jennifer; Jason Enochs and his wife, Trisha; Matt Jividen and his wife, Erin; Tyler Jividen; Joe Jividen and his wife, Ashlee; Caitlin Jividen; Sam Gardill; and Claire Gardill, as well as four great-grandchildren: Reece, Macey, Brice and Cade Enochs.

He also leaves a sister, Marlene Tolley Minor of Chester.

In addition to his parents, Del was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy L. Jividen and two brothers, Leonard Jividen and Gerald Jividen.

The Jividen family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Lisa Cox, Jennifer McComas and Connie Doughty who have become part of our family.

Private family services were conducted at the Dawson Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at Locust Hill Cemetery.
