Obituary for Sheridan G. "Junior" Pollock Jr.

SHERIDAN G. POLLOCK, JR., 89

EAST LIVERPOOL – Early Tuesday morning, December 12, 2017, lifetime East Liverpool resident Sheridan G. Pollock, Jr. passed away peacefully and is now reunited with his beloved wife, Carol, and other loved ones who were waiting for him in Heaven.

A son of the late Pauline Mitcheson Pollock and Sheridan G. Pollock, Sr., he was born on May 21, 1928 at home on Peake Street in East Liverpool, where he lived his entire life. He and his wife, the former Carolyn Stewart, raised their children there and spent over 64 years together until her death on May 6, 2015. They were married March 21, 1951.

He was a 1946 graduate of East Liverpool High School, and taught himself to work with electronics. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Seaman First Class in Jacksonville, Florida, and was awarded a victory medal. He remained a proud American throughout his life and was involved in the American Legion Post #374 and the VFW Post #66, where he was a member of the drill team which traveled to parades and other events.

For over 46 years, he had been a crew foreman for Columbia Gas, retiring in 1995 and was a past member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Sweet and kind by nature, “Junior”, as he was known to many, loved hunting at his cabin in the Pennsylvania mountains; he was a self-proclaimed “naturalist” and liked living off the land. He knew all the planets and even built his own telescope. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with all the “kids”, traveling to Las Vegas and Florida with Carol and their friends – and just being at his home overlooking the beautiful Ohio River.

He is survived by two daughters and a son: Tracy Dawson and her husband, Russ, of East Liverpool; Jill Woolmaker and her husband, Troy, also of East Liverpool; and Kim Pollock and his wife, Kerry, of Chester, VA.

There are nine grandchildren: Aaron Pollock; Amy Darmstedter and her husband, Joe; Benjamin Champ and his wife, Elizabeth; Jenny Longo and her husband, Rocco; Julianne James and her husband, Austin; Meredith Dawson; Ashleigh Woolmaker; Alyson Woolmaker; and Troy Woolmaker II. Three great-grandchildren, Molly Darmstedter, Rocco Longo IV, and Mia Longo, also survive.

He was preceded in death earlier this year by his sister, Virginia Martin. A brother-in-law, Ferrall “Fats” Martin, survives in East Liverpool, as does a sister-in-law Patricia Stewart.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Pastor John Smith of Grace Bible Church will officiate at a service to be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m.

Sheridan will be laid to rest beside his wife at Columbiana County Memorial Park, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors. Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
