Obituary for Mary Sue Vallera (Frank)

Mary Sue Vallera, 90, formerly of the city’s East End, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, September 19, 2017 at her home at CrossRoads at Beaver Creek, amongst friends and staff whom she loved dearly.

Born in East Liverpool on February 7, 1927, a daughter of the late Dominick and Laura Fava Frank, she was a 1945 graduate of East Liverpool High School. She married her husband, Jesse A. Vallera in 1950, and they made their home on Globe Street, where they raised their family and lived for 58 years. Jesse preceded her in death on February 9, 2008.

A longtime member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Mary had sung in the choir and performed various altar duties until its closing. She later belonged to Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, and appreciated her many friends there.

Mary had worked at Shaw’s Jewelry Store in downtown East Liverpool, but her first priority was her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who always took time to make others feel special.

She is survived by three loving children: Dr. Daniel A. Vallera and his wife Kimberly of Minneapolis; Professor Christina Dauka and her husband Michael of Okemos, Michigan; and Jesse "Chiz" Vallera, Jr. and his wife Mary of Wellsville.

In addition, there are seven loving grandchildren: Katie Dauka and her husband, Eric Sutton; Brad Chamberlin and his fiancée, Carrie Pearson; Vincent Vallera and his wife, Becca; Jesse Vallera, Daminica "Mica" McClellan and her husband, DJ; Daniel J. Vallera and his wife, Abigail; and Michael J. Dauka, as well as three great-grandsons, Luca and Wesley Vallera, and Liam McClellan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers: Nancy DeSarro, Anthony “Tony” Frank and Dominic “Junior” Frank. Mary’s younger brother, Rudy Frank and his wife, Angie, survive in East Liverpool. For many years, all five siblings were extremely close and all had homes on Globe Street.

Friends may call at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Father Steve Wassie will officiate at a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

Mary will be laid to rest beside her beloved Jesse at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Wellsville. Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
