Ralph B. McNicol, 86

EAST LIVERPOOL – Ralph B. McNicol, of long time East Liverpool resident, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Salem Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was 86.

Born in East Liverpool, July 27, 1931, he was a son of the late Harold and Artie Leigh McNicol. A member of St. Aloysius Church, he was a graduate of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1949 and a loyal volunteer at the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association. Ralph was a familiar face in East Liverpool, whether he was working on the building and grounds at the clock tower or hanging the Christmas lights and decorating at St. Aloysius Church.

A Korean War Veteran, he served with the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 as a medic. Upon his return from active duty, Ralph worked for Columbiana County Finance briefly and then began working for the Columbiana County Highway Department until retiring in 1992.

Surviving are a sister, Bonnie LaScola and her husband, Phil, of East Liverpool, along with two brothers: Patrick McNicol of Columbiana; and Richard McNicol and his wife, Inabel of Hubbard; and two sisters-in-law, Pat McNicol of Pickerington and Kathy McNicol of Rogers. Many nieces and nephews survive as well. He will also be sadly missed by his friend Fr. Anthony Esposito.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Grace McNicol, and four brothers, James McNicol, Robert McNicol, Joseph McNicol and Harold Michael McNicol.

Friends may visit Friday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 3 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.

The family would like to thank the Vista Center/Continuing Health Care of Lisbon and the staff at the Salem Regional Medical Center for their care and compassion.

Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in care of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association, 216 East 4th Street, East Liverpool or a charity of one’s choice.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park at a later date.
