EAST LIVERPOOL – Nelson E. Kelly, 76, of East Liverpool passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Calcutta Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.

Nelson was born in East Liverpool on July 22, 1942 a son of the late James K. and Kathleen Shannon Kelly. Nelson graduated from Beaver Local High School in 1960 and continued his education at Goshen College in Goshen, IN where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He worked as a consultant for the Chrysler Corporation as a warranty specialist before becoming self-employed owning and operating Kelly Warranty Service. He also owned and operated The X Ring.

Nelson took pride in the roses that he grew. He was a decades long member of the NRA and enjoyed cowboy action shooting as “Irish Grandpa”

In addition to his parents Nelson was preceded in death by a daughter Elizabeth Kelly in 1979.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, whom he married August 3, 1963, Deborah Kelly; three children Kathleen (Gregory) Barnes of St. Joseph, Michigan, James (Amiko) Kelly of Montgomery, Ohio and Meghan (Dr. Zareh Khachikian) Kelly of Tyler, TX; six grandchildren Christopher Barnes, Sarah (Ryan) Smith, Kelsey (Erik) Blematl, Jonathan Barnes, Kyuzo Kelly, Takezo Kelly, and three great-granddaughters, Grace Hutchens, Sophia Blematl and Isla Smith.

Alan Boone will conduct a funeral service Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
