Obituary for Jack DeSarro

EAST LIVERPOOL – Joseph Jack DeSarro, of Park Boulevard, passed away at home Friday, November 10, 2017, while surround by his loving family. He was 89.

Born in Wellsville, September 24, 1928, he was a son of the late John and Mary Victorelli DeSarro. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where served in the U.S. Army.

A man of strong faith, he was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, for many years and was a member of the former St. Ann’s Parish. He was a former president of the Sons of Italy in Wellsville at one time. He had many friends, and will be especially missed by his U Club family and his Tuesday night card game buddies.

From an early age, Jack learned the livestock trading business from his father where he became the largest order buyer east of the Mississippi. He continued to operate the business until the 1970s when he started several area night clubs.

Above all things in life, Jack had an unbounding love for his family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Norma Jean DeSarro, on October 8, 2013. The couple married January 12, 1952 and together they raised their four loving children: Chris DeSarro, and his wife Carrie, Gina Tatgenhorst, and her husband Bruce, Jackie DeSarro and Angela Guinn.

He will be sadly missed by 11 grandchildren: Nikki Ketchum, and her husband Tommy, Lauren DeSarro, Brittany DeSarro, Courtney Bojanac and her husband Ryan, Dickie Bissell, and his wife Jenna, Daminica Volino and her husband Nick, Justina DeSarro, Joey DeSarro and his wife Lataya, Jordan Seal, Tyler Seal and Ryan Seal, and 8 great-grandchildren: Lux, Giovanni, Christopher, Olivia, Francesca, Truth, Nicholas and Harper.

He is also survived by three sisters: Antoinette Means, Shirley Curran and Caroline Larkins; and a brother Jerry Lee DeSarro; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Tony, Sam, John, Sarah, Joe, Frank, Theresa, Josephine, Rosemarie, Jean Ann, Betty Lou, Jimmy, Albert and baby Lenny DeSarro.

Friends may visit Sunday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 8 p.m. Fr. Peter Haladej will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church.

Burial will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Wellsville where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at the Orchards, Calcutta Health Care Center and Community Hospice as well as the home healthcare staff.
