Obituary for John Shafer Boyd

John Shafer “Jack” Boyd, 82, who had many ties to the East Liverpool community throughout his life, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017. He had been living in the Port Orange, Florida, area since 1997.

Born on May 7, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri, he was a son of the late John and Eleanor June Shafer Boyd. He was a 1953 graduate of the former Chester High School, Chester, and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from West Virginia University in 1958. There, he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity and the WVU golf team. Jack also attended the Akron Art Institute.

Jack had been associated with Waterford Park racetrack at one time. He spent many years in the sales department at Radio Station WOHI in East Liverpool, and later became the Advertising Manager at The Hub department store in Steubenville before being promoted to Sales Promotion Director. He later held that same position corporation wide with L.S. Good and Company when The Hub merged with that chain of downtown department stores. Jack completed his retail career with J.C. Penney at the Fort Steuben Mall.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing golf. He was a former member of the Chester Masonic Lodge #142, as well as the Shriners in Steubenville, Ohio.

Surviving him is his wife, Michele Binkiweicz Boyd, whom he married in 1978. Jack also leaves behind his son, John McCoy Boyd and his wife, Leesa, of Weirton, West Virginia, along with grandson Owen S. Boyd and granddaughter, Madeline J. Boyd.

Also surviving is his brother, James M. Boyd and his wife, Elaine, of Butler, PA.

Jack will be laid to rest at Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
