Obituary for Sally Porter (Phillips)

SALLY PHILLIPS PORTER, 86

EAST LIVERPOOL – Longtime area resident Sally Phillips Porter passed away at noon on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Broadview Circle home she shared with her husband, Sid, for many years. She was 86.

Born in Hulburton, New York, on March 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late William B. and Grace Burr Phillips.

A graduate of Holly (New York) High School, she was also graduated from The Ohio State University before coming to East Liverpool, where she became very involved in community life. A member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, she served as president of numerous organizations over the years, including the Jaycee-ettes, the Child Study Club, Newcomers Club, Federation of Womens’ Clubs, East Liverpool Womens Club and the Colonial Club.

A past trustee of both the American Red Cross and the Mary Patterson Memorial, Sally also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Tri-State Pottery Festival committee, the City Hospital Auxiliary, and the Camp Fire Girls.

Survivors include her husband, Sidney C. Porter, whom she married on October 26, 1952.

Two daughters also survive: Janet P. Kaplan of Evergreen, Colorado, and Cheryl Porter and her husband, Schaun Mobley, of Mukilteo, Washington.

There are also two grandsons, Jason Kaplan and Justin Kaplan, both of Evergreen, as well as a sister-in-law, Betty Phillips, of Holly, New York.

Sally was preceded in death by her brother, Hanford B. Phillips.

A private family memorial service will be held at the Dawson Funeral Home in the Spring. Sally will be interred at Riverview Cemetery.
