Obituary for Ruth E. Standley (Fowler)

Ruth E. Standley, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior with her family by her side Tuesday morning, January 23, 2018 at East Liverpool City Hospital. A lifelong resident of East Liverpool, she had lived the last three years at Crossroads at Beaver Creek.

A daughter of the late Elmer and Ethel Bentley Fowler, Ruth was born in East Liverpool on April 2, 1923. She was a 1941 graduate of East Liverpool High School and had worked in the local pottery as a young adult. During World War II, she worked at the Treadwell Mill in Midland until her marriage to Clark Standley on May 28, 1945.

Clark preceded her in death on September 10, 1979.

Ruth was a lifelong and faithful member of Boyce United Methodist Church and belonged to its Homebuilders Class, where she had served as treasurer. She was a kind and familiar face at virtually every church event, especially during Vacation Bible School, and could most often be found preparing meals in the church kitchen.

Ruth and Clark were the proud parents of two daughters: Kay Steffen, and her husband Gary “Huck”, of Calcutta, and Sue Soussloff and her husband, Gregory, of Carrollton, Texas.

Also surviving are her four granddaughters: Kim Arzberger (Barry), of Puyallup, Washington; Andrea Jarrett of Salem; Stacia Garvin (Jeff), of Corinth, Texas; and Taryn Crawford (Jason) of Carrollton, Texas. There are ten great-grandchildren: Braden Shaw (Megan); Jarrod Shaw (Shae); Lauren Arzberger; Shaine Arzberger; Taylor Jarrett; Camryn Jarrett; Steffen Jarrett; Alexus Hazlewood; Colby Garvin; and Teagan Crawford, as well as six great-great-grandchildren: Brielee Shaw, Kyndree Shaw, Blaze Shaw, Remanee Shaw, Carson Shaw and Caroline Shaw.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Ruth was also was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Johnson, and by a brother, George T. Fowler.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Boyce United Methodist Church, with Pastor Rusty Johnston of the church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery next to her husband Clark.
