Obituary for Dorothy J. Shaw (Drake)

Dorothy J. Shaw, 89, formerly of Cartwright Street, died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 7:55 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, September 17, 1928, she was a daughter of the late James and Clara Gill Drake. Dorothy had attended Chester High School and was a finisher at the Homer Laughlin China Company for 13 years. She was a member of the Campground Community Church, and she was also a member of the Area Seniors, the Campground Seniors, Tri-Angle Senior Citizens and the 30/30 Club.

On January 1, 2010, Dorothy was preceded by her husband Keith R. Shaw whom she married on February 23, 1948.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Carol VanSickle, and her husband Glenn, of Murry, Kentucky, Karen Giovenco of Lisbon, and Pam Johnson, of Columbiana; along with a son, Michael K. Shaw of East Liverpool. Two sisters survive as well, Barbara Fey of Cocoa Beach, Florida, and Marilyn Mendez of Oakwood, Georgia. There are also 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. There are also two daughters-in-law, Betty Shaw and Linda Shaw, surviving as well.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sons, James and Edward Shaw, as well as two sisters, Gladys Ice and Kathryn Wiley. Dorothy was also preceded by two son-in-laws, Victor Giovenco and Frank Johnson, and a daughter-in-law Lillian Shaw.

Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Tom Adkins of the church will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Following the service, family and friends are invited to the Dawson Family Center for further fellowship and remembrance.
