Obituary for Ricky Carter

Richard S. “Ricky” Carter, 64

EAST LIVERPOOL - Richard S. “Ricky” Carter, of Erie Street, passed away suddenly Wednesday, February 7, 2018. He was 64.

Born in East Liverpool, September 19, 1953, he was a son of the late Richard W. and Elizabeth Pope Carter. A lifelong area resident, he was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1972 and was an All-State wrestler and standout member of the football team. He continued his education at Youngstown State University where he was an All-American and captain of the Penguin football team. He was inducted in to the East Liverpool High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Ricky worked for First Energy at the Bruce Mansfield Plant at Shippingport until retiring after 28 years of service. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy R. Welling Carter, at home. The couple married October 30, 1993. There are seven children: Shawnita Bowen, Derek Carter, Braxton Carter, Shannon Pruett, Jesse Carter, Cierra Carter and Katelyn Carter, as well as eight grandchildren: Arian, Preston, Shauntrice, Derek, Jr., Chaz, Camden, Brittyn and Foster; and one great-grandchild: Zayden.

A brother survives as well, Ralph D. Carter of East Liverpool.

A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
